Privacy policy
The short version
Stowsee keeps everything on your phone. The app has no account, no server of its own, and no analytics. It never sends your photos, descriptions, or catalog anywhere unless you export them yourself.
What the app stores, and where
Stowsee stores the photos you take, the descriptions you type or dictate, your boxes, locations, tags, and settings in the app's private storage on your device. Android prevents other apps from reading that storage. Uninstalling Stowsee deletes it.
What leaves your phone
- Backups and exports are files you create on purpose and save to a location you pick, such as a folder, a USB drive, or a cloud drive app. Where that file goes, and who can read it, is up to you and the service you chose.
- Printing sends the label sheet or inventory to the print service you select on your phone.
- Nothing else. Stowsee does not contact any server, does not use analytics or crash reporting, and shows no ads.
Permissions
- Camera, to photograph items and scan QR labels. Photos are saved only to the app's own storage.
- Microphone, only while you dictate a description or a search. See the next section.
- Stowsee does not ask for your location, contacts, or access to your photo gallery.
Dictation
Dictation uses the speech recognizer built into your phone. On phones with an offline speech model, recognition happens on the device. On phones without one, the phone's recognizer may send audio to its provider (usually Google) under that provider's privacy terms. Stowsee itself never records, stores, or transmits audio. You can always type instead.
Appearance search
Searching by description compares your words to your photos using a model that is bundled with the app and runs on the phone. Your photos are not uploaded for this.
Optional sync server
Stowsee may in future connect to a sync server so a household can share one catalog. Using it is optional. If you connect the app to a server, the boxes and items you choose to share are sent to that server, either one you run yourself or one we operate under separate terms that will be shown before you sign in. Without a server configured, Stowsee sends nothing.
Children
Stowsee is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them; it collects no personal information from anyone.
