Stowsee remembers what's in every box. Take a photo, say what it is, and find it later by name or by what it looks like. Nothing leaves your phone.
Cataloging a box takes about as long as packing it.

Snap
Open Stowsee on the camera and take a photo of the item. In quick-add mode every shutter press saves straight into the box you're packing.

Say what it is
The app listens right after the shot. "Brass hinge, small." That's the description. Type instead if you'd rather.

Ask for it later
Search by a word, or describe what it looks like. Stowsee shows the photo and the box it lives in, down to the shelf.
What it does
- Boxes and locations
- Boxes live in places and sub-places, like House › Garage › Shelf 2. Mark a box full or taken out. Move items between boxes in bulk.
- Search by appearance
- Describe an item you never named precisely, "red cable organizer", and Stowsee matches your words against the photos themselves. The model runs on the phone.
- QR labels
- Every box has a short code. Print label sheets on plain paper or Avery 5163, stick them on, and scan one to open its box. Labels you already own can be assigned too.
- Export and print
- Save the whole catalog as a spreadsheet, or print an inventory with photos grouped by location and box. One box at a time works as well.
- Backup and restore
- One tap makes a backup file you keep wherever you like. Restore everything, or pull a single box back out of an old backup.
- English and Chinese
- The interface follows your phone's language: English, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese.
Your stuff stays on your phone.
Stowsee has no account and no cloud. It doesn't collect analytics, and it works with the network off.
- Photos, descriptions, and search all happen on the device. The appearance-search model is bundled with the app.
- Backups are ordinary files. You choose where they go and who can read them.
- Dictation uses your phone's own speech recognizer, offline where the phone supports it.

The Stowsee sync server is open source. It runs on a small VPS with Docker and lets everyone in a home see the same boxes from their own phones.
Or let us run it
A hosted plan is planned for people who'd rather not manage a server, with optional AI cataloging that describes and tags items for you. Stowsee itself stays free and works without either.
Get the app
Stowsee runs on Android 10 and newer. It needs a camera, and a microphone if you want to dictate. No internet connection is required.
